Biography

Ms Grant-Curnow was formerly a foreign correspondent in South-East Asia (1995-1999) with newspapers and radio outlets including the South China Morning Post (Hong Kong), the Boston Globe (US), the Sydney Morning Herald, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, EFE Spanish News Agency, Voice of America, Radio France International and Deutsche Welle.

Ms Grant-Curnow served as an officer with the United Nations Department of Peace Keeping Operations (DPKO) from 1999-2003.

She worked as Public Information Officer with the UNAMET mission in East Timor (1999), and a Political Officer in the Office of Political Affairs in UNTAET (2000-2001) and UNMISET (2002-03) as well as a period in New York in 2002. She was Acting Director of Political Affairs in 2002 in the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General.

She was awarded the Australian Humanitarian Overseas Service Medal in 2000 for her work in East Timor.

Ms Grant-Curnow joined the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) in 2004 and has worked in the Pacific Branch (2004-05), South East Asia Division (2005-06) and Middle East and Africa Branch (2007) as well as undertaking Arabic language training from 2008-09.

She has a Masters in International Relations from the University of Sydney and a Bachelor in Communications from the University of Technology Sydney.

Ms Grant-Curnow speaks Arabic and Bahasa Indonesia. She is married with three children.
